Utter blackness on a moonless night,
A zillion stars swept the skies.
As God stooped into humankind,
Glory and riches left behind.
Mary birthed the giver of life
Joseph tended the needs of his dear wife.
Darkness was pierced by a baby’s cries,
Catching the busy world by surprise.
